We imported the whole history of galaxy-user@bx.psu.edu mailing list into Galaxy Biostar. Your prior posts are automatically claimed when you login!
If you access Galaxy Biostar from http://usegalaxy.org (Menu: Help -> Galaxy Biostar) you will be automatically logged in. A Galaxy Biostar account will be created for you if it did not previously exist. To obtain this account’s password please use the password reset feature of Galaxy Biostar (biostar.usegalaxy.org/accounts/password/reset/).
When you have a question, search Biostar directly from any Galaxy tool page.

That's really terrific. I've been on a lot of mailings lists over the years and they've been really useful (for the most part). But for this kind of support the post/forum/discussion thing is really a good plan.

Can I unsubscribe from the existing mailing list now without consequence? I understand you'll retire that eventually, but I don't need to get mail in the meantime. I just want to be sure it doesn't have some strange side effect of wiping me off this system.

Galaxy Community is resurrecting year old posts, and even newer ones were I think all answered but of course never accepted.

It is possible to have an auto-accept applied retroactively and probably the vast majority would be correct. The problem is really the remaining 10-15% where the answer may not be correct or a solution was not reached yet the algorithm would still add that mark.

I think that would greatly diminish the value of the accept.

But until they are closed you will constantly have year old posts at the top of the questions. This is also not useful. Maybe mark them with a new flag tentatively or just make the "Galaxy Community" user only put posts on the list that were generated after today.

I see, let me describe what is going on there.

There is a so called "bump" feature that people on Biostars have requested. It is to remind them of older posts and freshen the view during slower days. The bumping takes place every six hours. It has a 50% chance to choose either one random question from the entire corpus or one unanswered random question from the past 10 weeks.

This latter does not take into account the accepted state, just wether the post has an answer or not. I general only people familiar with Q&A concepts do accept answers, it is not the most obvious interaction especially for newcomers.

We can turn off the bumping altogether, alter how it works or what it does. The concept was migrated over from Biostars but may not be appropriate here.

What about adjusting the feature so it will 'bump' only the posts created after the Galaxy Biostar announcement? A lot of stuff from the import is not really Q&A but more like part of a thread or obsolete announcement and this could help it.

Let me turn if off then for now, since there would be very few posts to choose from. Then we'll turn it on back later, where I'll add the selection feature as well.
